The Goodwood Road regeneration zone is showing encouraging signs of progress, with some of the native plants established during the 2024 restoration works now flowering. The appearance of flowers shows that some of the young plants are becoming established. Over time, the developing vegetation will provide additional food and habitat for insects, birds and other…
Every macadamia harvested from an orchard begins another important stage of its journey long before it reaches a processor, exporter or customer. Freshly harvested nuts cannot simply be stored or transported. They must first be cleaned, dehusked, dried and sorted to protect quality and prepare them for the next stage of the supply chain. These…
Every premium macadamia begins its journey in the orchard, but producing a high-quality kernel requires far more than successful growing. Once harvested, the crop enters a carefully managed supply chain where moisture, temperature, handling and quality assurance all influence the final product. For orchard managers, these stages are a continuation of the work that begins…
From the workshop floor to the orchard rows. 🚜🔧 At MFM, harvest doesn’t begin when the machines enter the orchard. It starts long before that in our Welcome Creek Workshop, where our team designs, fabricates and continually refines equipment specifically for macadamia orchards. This latest harvester is the result of years of practical harvest experience,…
At Macadamia Farm Management (MFM), we are committed to implementing sustainable practices that not only enhance the health and productivity of our orchards but also provide significant returns for our clients. Our latest initiative, led by our Horticulturist Dr Chris Cannizzaro, focuses on planting bee-friendly trees to bolster biodiversity and support native pollinators. This project,…
Nearly two years after the first trees went into the ground, the Bee Friendly Farming plantings across these MFM-managed orchards are now beginning to visibly change the structure and ecology of the farm landscape. Originally established through a Bee Friendly Farming grant and led by MFM Horticulturist Dr Chris Cannizzaro, the project involved the planting…
How MFM’s ethephon programs are reshaping macadamia harvest coordination Macadamia harvest doesn’t arrive all at once. It builds — block by block, variety by variety — across months of orchard floor management, machinery scheduling, and quality decisions made under real pressure. At peak season, every system on the farm is being tested simultaneously. Processing capacity….
We recently engaged OzTech Drones to complete a day of spraying across one of the properties we manage. The purpose was not to trial or roll out a new system, but to observe how drone application performs under normal farm conditions and where it fits within day-to-day operations. Good farm management comes back to using…
Each summer, marine turtles return to Mon Repos on the Bundaberg coast — one of Australia’s most significant turtle rookeries and home to the Mon Repos Turtle Centre. For years, rangers have monitored nest temperatures closely. What they’ve observed reflects a broader climate trend: sand temperatures during incubation are increasing. As Ranger Shane explained during…
Macadamia Farm Management (MFM) is committed to continuous improvement and technological advancement in macadamia farming, and our use of SwarmFarm Robotics is an important step in this mission. By integrating autonomous mowing technology into our orchard management practices, we are systematically improving efficiency and refining operational effectiveness, with ongoing refinements to optimise performance and reliability….
